Holding Opposing Views Can Make Your Dreams Come True

Holding Opposing Views Can Make Your Dreams Come True December 14, 2021

Evolved humans can hold two opposing thoughts – or what sometimes seem to be conflicting concepts. The definition of “intention” and “commitment” are usually presented in a way that puts them at odds, e.g., Commitment is clear, definitive, and actionable; Intention is vague, not specific and has no real accountability.

When we have clear intentions, we set a higher energy force behind them than just our “wishing” or “hoping.”

In your planning for the new year, I’d like to recommend that you do both – set clear intentions backed up by actionable commitments to attain what’s most meaningful and important to you.

In his best-selling book, The Power of Intention, Dr. Wayne Dyer defines intention as “a field of energy that flows invisibly beyond the reach of our normal, everyday habitual patterns.” He sees this energy force as being omnipresent and accessible with conscious intention. It is the place where creativity and ideas are spawned and accessible. When we have clear intentions and picture them often, we set a higher energy force behind them than just our “wishing” or “hoping.” We are attracting something more to unfold. Dyer calls this, the power of attraction.

Commitment is making a promise to ourselves and others where we are not only clear, but precise in our language. Commitments often start with “I/we will.” They continue with a verifiable action and a date and time; or they may be ongoing such as “I will meditate daily.” In the strategic planning work we’ve facilitated, we encourage clients to commit to SMART goals to ensure success (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound). However, if you don’t have a compelling vision for your organization or team, there’s no big intention to hook the goals together. Both are essential to success.

There’s a power in combining intention and commitment to attract and manifest your passion and purpose – for you individually, in teams and for your organization. Why not combine the two for optimum results and fulfillment?
